Canine Companions for Independence
My sweet Service Dog from Canine Companions for Independence (www.cci.org) has been diagnosed with Horner's Syndrome.
Horner's syndrome is a condition that can occur in dogs, and especially Golden Retrievers (DeMilo is a Golden Lab, half yellow lab, half Golden Retriever). The symptoms generally include a sunken appearance to the eye (enophthalmia) small pupil (miosis), droopy upper eyelid (ptosis), and a prominent third eyelid.
According to his opthalmologist, at Northwest Animal Eye Specialists, "Horner's Syndrome is an intriguing and complex disorder than can be difficult to understand."
It is a nuerological condition related to nerves around the eye and is usually a symptom of a larger issue, so we will need to pay for additional chest and neck X-Rays at an MRI to rule out any potential causes like cancer, which is why we are humbly asking for donations as his consultation with the opthalmologist alone was $400.
We realize with Coronavirus forcing so many that we know and love out of work will make monetary donations difficult. We completely understand and appreciate your love and support nonetheless.
