This is a difficult post to write and share, as many of you know Shad Smith to be an independent and private person. However, we need his community of people to know what's happening, so collectively we can support him.
Shad came down with Covid-19 on 1/11/22, was sick at home for a week, then needed to be admitted to Monadnock Community Hospital due to falling 02 numbers. They cared for him very well, but he continued to decline and need more and more support. He was transferred to Dartmouth Hitchcock this past Sunday night, and progressed to needing ventilator support. Even with ventilation, his lungs struggled, and he is now on something called ECMO, to help rest his lungs and supply oxygen to his body by alternative means. He will likely need to remain on this for weeks while his lungs hopefully repair themselves.
The good news is that all his other body systems are strong, his stubborn spirit is still in there, and we are hopeful he will make a recovery, but it is going to take time.
Funds received will assist with any unexpected medical costs, months of lost wages, and care for their home, three horses, and two dogs.
Thank you to everyone for the support we have received already. The phone calls, texts, prayers and well wishes have been a source of comfort.
