Meet Shadey, a bright, resilient 15-week old German Shepherd puppy who came into our care after recently suffering a broken back leg due to being attacked by a dog-at-large in Slemon Park.
Her leg suffered a Salter type fracture of her tibia as well as the tip of her fibula being broken as well. These fractures are particularly challenging as the growth plate of the bone is affected.

At just 15 weeks old, Shadey is full of energy, but her rapidly growing body means her healing process requires intense, ongoing veterinary care. Because puppies grow so fast at this stage, her cast cannot simply stay on for six weeks - it must be removed, evaluated, and recast every single week to account for her growth and prevent pressure sores or complications.

We started her treatment at the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC), where her initial emergency assessment, X-rays, and first casting came up to just under $1200.

THE BREAKDOWN OF CARE & COSTS
To ensure her leg heals straight and strong so she can run, play and live a full, pain-free life, here is what her full care plan looks like over the next eight weeks:
  • Initial AVC Emergency Visit & X-rays: $1138 (Completed)
  • Weekly Recasting & Sedation: Est $400 per week x 8weeks = $2800
  • 6-week follow-up X-rays & Cast Removal: Est $900
  • Medications and Rehabilitation Support: Est $500
  • Total Estimated Care Goal: $5200-$6000

How You Can Help
Every dollar goes directly toward Shadey's medical expenses. If you aren't able to donate financially, sharing this page with your network makes a world of difference.

Thank you so much for helping this sweet girl get back on all four paws! We will post weekly updates and X-ray progress photos here as she heals.
