Help Shane Raise Funds For Top Surgery!

Hi hi! My name is Shane Duran. I’m a 21-year-old trans man currently studying art and film at UC Berkeley. I’m opening this GoFundMe to raise $5,000 for my top surgery, scheduled for December 30, 2024!

I’ve known I was trans since I was 13, and I was lucky enough to start my medical transition as soon as I turned 18.

When I initially came out as a wee 13-year-old, no one really knew how to support me, brushing it under the rug and pretending like it didn’t exist. This made the process of understanding my identity confusing, uncomfortable, and not as freeing as I would have hoped. But! I persevered. I vividly remember putting on a binder for the first time at 14 and seeing my chest… flat! For the first time ever, I saw a glimmer of hope—a light at the end of the tunnel!! I felt so much relief, like a physical weight had been lifted off my body. I cried!!! It was one of those moments that made everything feel possible.

When I moved away to college, I finally had the space to explore myself fully. As soon as I turned 18, I advocated for myself and jumped at the chance of beginning my journey in medical transitioning; first with the testosterone patches, then the gel, and now I am currently on a weekly t-shot dose. During my time at Berkeley, I have had the chance to connect with other trans folks, having the honor to learn and grow alongside them. These experiences have deepened my understanding of queerness and strengthened my resolve to continue moving forward.

Top surgery has been a dream of mine for years—my ultimate goal in my transition. Knowing that this surgery is just around the corner feels surreal, but I need your help to make it a reality!!
