Help Shane Seek Safe Housing
Donation protected
***UPDATE: I’ve doubled the goal as l have past rent due in the amount of $1555. If I do not pay this amount by June 28th, I will be taken to court by my landlord. Please help me navigate this difficult time .
Hi everyone,
My name is Shane. I’m a 28 year-old Philly native who struggles with sickle cell, a chronic pain disorder, as well as other mental illnesses. Over the past 6 months, I’ve experienced a life threatening surgery that left me jobless for 8 weeks, given me a permanent scar and a lifetime of trauma. It has been extremely difficult finding ways to financially support myself, while dealing with the traumatic woes of my surgery.
While recovering, I was also dealing with a very selfish, disingenuous roommate who was trying to kick me out WHILE I was in the hospital bed, just one day after my emergency procedure. She ended up moving out, which left me to cover the rent in full alone, while recovering mentally and physically. I was not able to cover the rent in full, and my landlords were not very empathetic or understanding of my situation at all.
Fast forward to the present, and I am now banned from reapplying and have about 1 month to raise funds needed to cover first month’s rent, last month’s rent, and a security deposit. I have been job searching for months with no offers yet, so I am here asking for the support of my community to find me safe housing. As someone who is neurodivergent and chronically ill, it can be difficult to create or even seek consistent work security. With your help, I will be able to find a place that I can afford and keep over my head. Thank you for all your support
Sincerely,
Your Pal Shane <3
