Help Shania's Mom with Rent during Stage 4 Cancer

Hi friends and family! As many of you know, I have a little sister through Big Brothers, Big Sisters, and her name is Shanai. I have known Shanai longer than I have known Ryan. We were matched the summer of 2012, and our relationship has enhanced my life in more ways than I ever expected. Shani is a sweetheart and has become like true family to me - so has her mom, Areya. Areya is only three years older than me but was recently diagnosed with stage four cervical cancer. Due to the pain from both this diagnosis as well as a failing kidney, Areya had to quit her job as a security guard, a job that she has dutifully performed since I've known her. As a result, she is now under a heap of rent debt ($7,117 to be exact but trying to raise $8,500 for some wiggle room). In the ten years I have known this family, Areya has never once asked me for money (and to be clear, she is not asking now; I found all of this out only through asking and chatting with another one of their family friends). Areya is a hard worker, fiercely loyal to her children, and until recently, has been able to provide for her family. I am heartbroken to see Areya so sick, and knowing that she has this financial debt hanging over her head is making me lose sleep. Since I cannot make the cancer go away, I am helping the only way I know how by enlisting the help of family and friends for both financial assistance and/or prayer. I have so much hope that Areya can beat this, but I think removing some of this financial burden is essential to her mental wellbeing and overall strength.
