Help Shanté Overcome Her Series of Unfortunate Events

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Sandra and I’m fundraising for my daughter, Shanté. Shanté is 26 years old and life has been knocking her down back-to-back. In January 2024, Shanté finally landed a job that she liked as a Collections Specialist for a small Credit Union. When Shanté was offered the position, she let them know that a trip was pre-planned for later in the month to attend my grandmother’s 97th birthday celebration in Georgia. The hiring manager approved her time off, so Shanté was able to travel with me. Upon Shantés return, she quickly picks up on the job and her supervisor told her she was doing a great job. About a month later, Shanté fell ill, which was before her health insurance went into effect, so Shanté went to work but wore a mask. Well she got worse and took a Friday off and tried to get better over the weekend but to no avail. Shante mustered up the energy to go to work on Monday even though she was still sick. In short, Shanté never got 100% well but she kept pushing because she was on probation. A few weeks later, Shante’s supervisor went on vacation and when Shanté arrived to work, the CEO of the credit union called Shanté in their office and fired her. Basically saying that Shanté was out too much. Shanté was disheveled and shocked because she thought she was going to make it beyond probation and try to make a career with this credit union. The CEO didn’t care that the dates to Georgia were pre-approved and that Shanté had fallen ill. The CEO brought up a day that Shanté was late to work as well. Shanté explained to the CEO that she had caught a flat tire, immediately contacted her supervisor to let them know that she caught a flat but is on the way. The CEO said well you just have bad luck and continued with the decision to fire Shanté. Not only did Shanté lose her job, the credit union kept her last paycheck to pay back the PTO that was previously approved, so that left Shante without money to pay her April’s rent. Needless to say, Shanté is now facing a possible eviction if she doesn’t find a way to pay April and now May’s rent, plus her water bill. Shanté was able to land a serving job to try to pay her rent, but she hasn’t worked there long enough to avoid an eviction.

Next, on April 30, Shanté is hit and dragged by a company dump truck. By the grace of God, Shanté is okay but now she doesn’t have a car to get to physical therapy and her server job, so now she needs funds to take an Uber/Lyft, which she doesn’t have. So Shanté has lost her job, car (declared a total loss), and about to lose her apartment all in a matter of two months. Shanté is suing but that takes time and in the meantime, she has nothing.

As her mother, I’m helping her as much as I can but I can’t afford my bills and hers. I live in a one-bedroom apartment and my son is already staying with me because he lost his job in March for getting sick and unable to show up for work. Apparently, there was a bug going around and both of my children fell prey to it.

If anyone can help my daughter get caught up on her rent and maintain a roof over her head, eat, and car rental expenses until she finds another job, it would be most appreciated. Unfortunately, we don’t have any family members that can help her, so I thought I would try this route as we are in desperate need.

Thank you,
A Worried Mother
