Sharon Heal at Home After a Life-Altering Surgery

Introduction:

Sharon Maxwell, a selfless, fearless, and bold queer and fat activist, desperately needs your help. This October of 2023, after years of fighting against a medical system rich in weight stigma, Sharon was finally able to receive a life-altering and much-needed hysterectomy. Sharon is in recovery from anorexia, and this surgery was a result of years of battling her eating disorder while advocating for others who are still suffering with their mental health and eating disorders.

Sharon's Story:

Sharon is a friend of mine. We met through our work in the eating disorder advocacy and fat activism spaces.

She has always been the first to use her voice to stand up for others and advocate for the eradication of eating disorders. She has put others before herself time and time again. Finally, she was able to receive the medical care she deserved years prior and so, so needed. Despite the stress from her history with an eating disorder manifesting in her body, she has shown up to work and advocate for others tirelessly.

The Current Battle:

Sharon's need for surgery has left her unable to work and on leave from freelance work as well. She is currently recovering from surgery, and we would like that to be where she focuses her energy on currently. She is currently facing a mentally and physically challenging battle to recover. The cost of her medical care, living expenses, follow-up care, and other associated costs are substantial.

We want to be able to have someone support her mentally and physically as needed, as well as the monetary support to cover these extensive expenses.
