Help Sharyn Keep Her Home
Donation protected
Dear Community,
We have now exceeded our fundraising goal twice to help Sharyn keep her home! We want to thank you so much for your generous support. It’s inspiring to see how many folks donated, and how everyone’s contribution has created such a strong web of support for Sharyn. She is blown away by the support, and offers gratitude to each and every one of you for showing up, whether you shared this fundraiser with friends or donated. Now let’s enjoy watching her put down roots and continue to shine in our community. ❤️✨

As many of you know, Sharyn has been a vibrant and beloved member of our community for many years. So many of us have benefited from her warmth, care, and brilliance. Among the many things she has contributed to Salt Spring: years of service at SWOVA educating students about healthy relationships, working with Navigator for Wellness to network and support health care services, and volunteering at the Burgoyne Valley Shaw Community Gardens where her warm smile welcomes everyone at the gate.
Like many people on Salt Spring, Sharyn has faced housing insecurity in her 22 years here living in and contributing to this community. She has weathered the ups and downs, as a hard-working single mother, overcoming breast cancer, loss, grief, systemic oppression, and more.
Sharyn had an opportunity to purchase a home through a private sale, and joyfully purchased her first home 2 years ago. Since then, she has been settling into this new level of security—a dream come true. However, she has recently run into unforeseen challenges in her mortgage arrangement.
This house means everything to Sharyn: a chance to experience security and safety in a community she has stuck with through thick and thin.
Throughout her many struggles, Sharyn has resisted asking the community for financial support. But now she can no longer continue to survive, let alone thrive, without financial help. Sharyn only needs to raise $6000 to resolve the issues that will help her to keep her home. We have just updated the goal to $8000 in response to the incredible support, this bit of extra will go a long way to helping Sharyn navigate home ownership. Any and all contributions are greatly appreciated.
Another possibility is finding a private mortgage holder willing to step in and take on the mortgage for the next 5 years with all terms and conditions kept in place. If this is you, please message us to start the conversation.
Let's help Sharyn out and keep this shining gem as part of our community.
