HELP Shawn Storks Stroke recovery

Donation protected

Hi, I'm Shawn Storks mother Carol Joann. Shawn, age 43, suffered a stroke in the early morning hours of July 28, 2021 while sleeping. The stroke was the result of two blood clots, one in the front part of his brain which was quite large and a smaller one in the back part and it left him paralyzed on the right side of his body. He cannot talk or see out of his right eye. He has finally gotten to where he can swallow thick liquids. Now that he can at least swallow thick liquids the hospital is releasing him today, August 5, 2021.

On August 9th, 4 days after discharge from the hospital he began throwing up,  running a low grade fever and having difficulty breathing.  He was readmitted to the hospital that night with pneumonia.  It was so scary,  by the time he was put in a room he could hardly draw a breath,  I was terrified for him. He had been aspirating even before he was released from the first hospital stay. We were told that the pneumonia was caused from bacteria from the mouth going into the lungs. His swallowing was too weak to eat or drink,  he went 6 or 7 days with no food before they finally decided to put a peg tube in for feeding.

He was released from this stay on August 19th. The Discharge Diagnosis was: 1: Sepsis; 2: Stroke due to thrombus of left middle cerebral artery; 3: nausea and vomiting; 4: Hypertension; 5: hyperlipidemia; CAT scan brain - abnormal.

Sadly he has no health insurance. We, his family are very limited on funds and he has zero funds at this point. I  feel like I  am failing him because he isn't getting the physical therapy he needs and deserves in order to have any hope of regaining the abilities he has lost. I am still in the process of trying to find a community based type of program that might be able to help him, so far no luck.

In order for him to recover properly it's imperative that he get Rehabilitation. Also the home he will be staying in will need to be fitted for handicap and a ramp built. At this point we know that he will be on at least four medications and a special liquid diet. Of course disability will be filed for but we have no idea how long that process will take. If you find it in your heart to help, he and his family thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Please share his story and this link and may God bless you all, thank you.
