Help Shay regain her mobility
Donation protected
Hi, I'm Lisa and, I am starting this Go Fund Me for my niece, Shay Freund. Years ago Shay offered to take care of me in my old age. Thankfully, it hasn't come to that stage yet, but now Shay needs my help. Her life has taken a big change....
Shay is a loving, kind, and very giving soul. She cares deeply for her family, husband, Doug, daughter, son, and four grandchildren. She has been involved in dog rescue programs for the past 8 years as an organizer, volunteer, and adopter. Shay currently cares for 3 disabled rescue dogs. Doug and Shay are both employed, but Shay has been bed-ridden for the past 8 months.
Shay had a left knee injury 11 years ago which required over 12 different surgeries. The last, recent, and most critical required the amputation of her leg above the knee as the result of a staff infection that was threatening her life. Shay is now facing at least 4-8 months of rehab before she can even be considered for a prosthetic device. She is wheelchair dependent for now. Her goal is to become as mobile and independent as possible.
Doug and Shay have extensive renovations to make their home accessible. These renovations include widening doors, hard surface flooring, ramps, lowering counters, making the bathroom accessible and adding a walk-in bathtub. They also are purchasing a wheelchair and will need to purchase a vehicle that can handle a special ramp/lift for that vehicle so that she will be able to be independent. There are also costs for her medical care that are not covered by insurance, such as frequent trips to the Mayo clinic for followup exams.
They do not have the savings to cover these costs. Please consider donating to help Shay lead a somewhat normal existence while dealing with a new life challenge. She has a very upbeat, and can conquer any obstacle attitude. Knowing that people care enough to help them make the renovations and help Shay be mobile will certainly contribute to her recovery and wellbeing.
I will follow up with pictures of the renovations so that people can see how their contributions are helping! Thank you, Lisa Larry
