Help Shayna and G Get By
Donation protected
For anyone that knows my little community, you know that we hate asking for help. Especially financial help. Shayna is no exception to that, but drastic times call for drastic measures and that's why we're here.
Last Tuesday on March 28, 2023 G underwent a fairly routine but extensive spinal fusion surgery to treat scoliosis. The surgery was scheduled and went well, G was doing well in recovery for about 24 hours. On Wednesday March 29, there were complications. G lost feeling and mobility in his legs and his blood pressure dropped to dangerous levels. He was promptly moved to the ICU where he was stabilized and imaging was taken.
Imaging showed an epidural hematoma at that time, that doctors believed could be the cause of these issues. A second surgery was performed to repair the hematoma - during the second surgery, G's nerves were not responding the way they should have and he wasn't regaining feeling. At that point, doctors opted to remove the rods inserted the day before to give his body a chance to reduce the inflammation and hopefully bring those nerves back online.
As of today, Sunday April 2nd - G has not regained the feeling or mobility in his legs and doctors can't explain why this has happened, if it is permanent, or what the long term prognosis is. Instead of coming home yesterday to recover with his family, G may be in the hospital indefinitely playing the world's worst waiting game.
And while all of this is happening to her family, Shayna is of course still expected to pay her rent and bills on time. While her company has been incredibly understanding and has provided all the time off she will need to get through this difficult time - that time off is completely unpaid. While she'd been prepared for a few weeks of leave for a routine recovery, this was completely unforeseen and not only stops her from working but prevents her from using her incredible baking talents to pick up the slack.
That's where you come in, our family, friends, neighbors, coworkers, and community - we need to rally around Shayna and G so that she doesn't have to worry about keeping herself afloat and can focus entirely getting G better and getting home. Please share, donate, and reach out with any support you have for this family. They're scared and angry but all they can do is wait.
