Help Shelby and Joey recover from Maui fire losses

Donation protected
Please help us rally together for Shelby, Joey and their family who are suffering from immeasurable loss from the Maui wildfires that burned their beloved town of Lahaina. Although we are grateful that they were able to evacuate quickly and safely, we are also devastated, as these two have worked tirelessly over the years to build a life together, and a new place to call home for Shelby, who moved to Hawaii in 2018 after meeting Joey, the love of her life at a destination wedding.

Whether it’s a $1 donation or a $1000 donation, your generosity is incredibly appreciated and will help a deserving family through an extremely difficult time. While many of what they lost cannot be replaced, this will help give them a chance at a fresh start.

Latest update on Shelby & Joey’s situation in Lahaina:

We are happy to share their current news. During the initial process of fleeing from their home (located one block from Front St. in Lahaina), Shelby and Joey believed the magnitude and furry of the fire had consumed their home & neighbourhood. With their lives in imminent danger decisions needed to be made quickly.

It’s been three days now and new information is slowly coming to light. Shelby and Joey were able to make it back into their neighbourhood and to their surprise- their home was still standing. God was surely smiling upon them as many homes around them had completely burned to the ground. Despite the large amount of smoke damage they are overwhelmed with relief that their house was not destroyed. Shelby and Joey are still in shock, which is to be expected with all they’ve experienced over the last few days.

Having said this, we jumped the gun with the initial description based on what we were seeing and hearing.

To date, survival is their primary concern with trying to find access to fresh water & supplies for themselves and others who haven’t been as fortunate, including Joey’s brother and family

We want to deeply thank each and every one of you who generously contributed- we see you. There is something so beautiful and healing in the power of community

Based on the updated situation, we would like to offer returns on the donations made based on the premise that their home had been taken from them. For anything not refunded, the funds will still be put towards helping Shelby and Joey and their family through the difficult days that lie ahead.

Please reach me directly via email at [email redacted] for any return requests.

I’m including an excerpt from last night between Shelby to Clay on what is actually happening for them in Lahaina at this time…

FROM SHELBY:

“We’re okay. Two full condo buildings on the park burnt to the ground right across the street from us, and one house on the exterior of the hood. It’s INSANE. The fire skipped over majority of the neighbourhood but decimated majority of Lahaina. Literally feels like mad max. We’re sweaty, covered in soot but safe. We have no power or water but Joey got a generator and we’re getting creative. It may be weeks before we have access to power or water again. We’re just taking it one day at a time. I haven’t even been to work don’t know when I will be, mom said you and Shala started a gofundme! THANK YOU SO MUCH. We will be able to buy more supply’s for all of our Lahaina ohana (family) who lost their homes and family members. It’s so sad Clay, truly devastating, I don’t think it’s even hit yet. There’s too much to focus on for the moment. Thank you for checking on us. There’s no wifi so I can’t call you yet. We will when we can. Love you.”

Their world has become what movies are made of.
