Help Shelby Renee Benson on her road to recovery.

Hey everybody this is is Ashlee Benson, sister of Shelby Benson and daughter of Kavin and Alicia Skeen. I am starting this fundraiser in hopes to help my parents pay for expenses they are currently encountering and also to help them take care of Shelby and her future medical expenses as she has a very long road to recovery ahead of her. Tuesday, November 30th, my sister was in a car accident that left her fighting for her life in the hospital. Saturday, December 4, was day 4 after the accident and that was when the swelling of her brain reached it’s highest point, so her doctors and nurses jumped into action and performed the Craniotomy (removing part of her skull to allow for swelling). By the end of the day Sunday we finally saw a drop in her ICP (Intracranial Pressure) which is what the Craniotomy was supposed to do. Now we would have liked to see the drop in her ICP sooner but because she received 12 units of blood it took her body a while to process the intake of all of it. She was having bad coughing episodes so they had to adjust the setting on her ventilator to lower the amount of oxygen she exhaled with each breathe; she did not like this at all but she finally adjusted to it and is not having the coughing episodes anymore. This setting on the ventilator is actually better because it is easier to get her off of it at a later time. She is stable but she is VERY critical. It is now just a waiting game for when her body can regulate the pressure/oxygen in her brain on her own because the bolt in her head that reads the pressure can not come out until she can do that on her own. Once the bolt comes out we will be able to know more about her mental state, until then please keep sending our Shelby your prayers! We are praying once the bolt is out and she is less critical that she will come around sooner so we can avoid having to do a tracheotomy for long term ICU care. Thank you for all your prayers and help during this time! My family will forever thank God for all of you who lifted our NaeNae and the rest of our family up in prayers!
