Help Shelter Families Secure Housing!
Donation protected
We are a group of parents from Brooklyn, NY, who are desperately seeking support on behalf of our neighbors. Several families in our children's elementary school class are facing eviction from shelters on Sunday, January 20th, due to Mayor Adams cruel changes to NYC's right to shelter laws. Without guaranteed shelter or resources, these parents and small children will be forced to live on the street.
Families with children (including infants older than 6 months!) will have to reapply for shelter placement, which is not guaranteed. Additionally, these families may not be placed in shelters in their current neighborhood, which will be devastating for the community and disruptive to their children's schooling.
We are raising funds to help four families secure at least a month's worth of temporary or permanent housing within or near the neighborhood. This money will be used for expenses such as: hotel or Airbnb fees, renting a room or apartment, transportation to and from housing to their school (as school busing is extremely unreliable), as well as any other costs associated with this move.
