Help Sheryl Through Her Breast Cancer Fight
Donation protected
My dear friend, mama to 2 lovely girls, dedicated and talented photographer, and woman who is so much to so many, Sheryl, was recently diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer. She is undergoing chemotherapy as part of her treatment plan, and once her doctor's determine she's ready, she will get surgery - likely a double masectomy.
Her treatment plan will take her away from her work, and will have a huge financial impact on her and her family, so we're asking for you all to consider donating--any amount will be so greatly appreciated--and please also consider sharing this on your pages and stories to reach more people who may be able to help reach the goal of $10,000. It may seem like a big number, but it's actually quite modest considering all that will be needed at this time. My hope is that we can go above and beyond the goal and support this amazing woman and her girls, as she fights through this trying time.
Please read the note from Sheryl below:
"Just two days before Christmas I learned that the ultrasound and mammogram showed all the signs of breast cancer and in the lymph node of the same side. Since then it all became too real from tests and screenings and scans that I was in fact about to embark on possibly the biggest challenge in my life. My first chemo treatment started Jan 17 and will continue for 12 more treatments every 2 weeks (consisting of three separate chemo meds) or as long as on a needed basis. If the chemo works quickly then the oncologist and surgeon could determine it’s no longer needed and to go forward with surgery. It’s going to be an intense time as the chemo is so rough on me physically. Next step will most likely be a double mastectomy because of this type of cancer that has higher chances of returning.
The diagnosis is of most concern is the type of cancer rather than it’s stage (which is 2B) which is called “Triple Negative”. It tests negative from the three hormone inducing cancers and is more aggressive and rare. This is why I am being treated quickly and aggressively.
Because I am trying to operate as normal, professional, and save as much hair as I can I have started a special cold cap treatment that helps preserve as much of my hair as possible. The company that provides this is out of Dallas and is called Dignicap. I have already supplied myself and paid for the equipment and one treatment because it must be used during every treatment. The cost is so far not covered by insurance. The equipment was $265 and every treatment is $300 out of pocket.
Other needs arise as time goes on and I realize there are other things I will need such as nutritional supplements, quality electrolytes, meals and snacks during the 6 hour treatments. Also the occasional house cleaning I may need as well.
Missing some work is inevitable as I have already for doctor appointments, port placement surgery, testing and recovery. Income will be less than usual. I am a mom of two wonderful daughters (19 and 17) both in a local college and living at home. It’s sometimes a challenge having them help out but they are adjusting to the extra work. I also have an amazing significant other in my life, Aaron Cooper, who has been there for every appointment and holding me up when I can’t, encouraging me and keeping me laughing and smiling.
I am a photographer and portrait maker running my own business full time on my own and also work a couple days a week at a quaint but lovely restaurant in downtown Bentonville.
Bentonville has now been my home for 6 1/2 years and I love the community and friends I have connected so well with. Thanks to everyone including my family for your love, prayers and support. You have no idea how much any support means. Love you all!"
