Help Shine a Light on Baby Birds!

Summertime is fast approaching, which means our center will be filling up with hundreds of baby birds! Not only will these babies need countless amounts of healthy diet, but they will also need the proper amount of UVB light to help their little bones and newly emerging feathers grow properly.

 

 

The majority of our baby birds are first housed inside in a controlled environment/nursery and do not have the luxury of exposure to the natural UVB rays of the sun until they are older and can be safely housed in our outdoor aviaries. To make sure their bones develop without abnormalities and their feathers come in healthy and strong, we supplement their environment with UVB lighting. We are looking to purchase 20 UVB light fixtures/hoods at a total cost of $770 and 30 UVB light bulbs at a cost of $580 for a grand total of $1,350.

Since 1976, we have treated and rehabilitated tens of thousands of patients, including many that were brought to us with severe injuries needing surgical care. Our mission is to provide professional, compassionate rehabilitation to native injured and orphaned wild birds and contaminated wildlife, and to promote their stewardship through education and humane research. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, we are funded primarily through private donations, and we depend on our dedicated league of volunteers to assist in day-to-day wildlife care and education.
