Help Shipibo Villagers Access Safe Drinking Water
Donation protected
This is Jade Wah'oo Grigori. Today I was contacted by my dear friends of the Shipibo tribal community of San Francisco near Pucallpa, Peru, in the Amazon basin.
The region has just been inundated with record-breaking rainfall that has flooded the villages along the Ucayali River and Lake Yarinacocha. While this flooding is severe in its own right, the underlying challenge is that the freshwater wells that provide clean drinking water for the region's inhabitants have been contaminated with the floodwaters, and they no longer have access to safe water for drinking. Consequently, the villagers are having to rely on buying water in jugs... something for which their meager economic status cannot accommodate.
The request of my friends is that I reach out to my friends to collect funds to enable them to purchase water for drinking, cooking, and ensuring that the babies and elders, in particular, have access to potable water. Hence, this Go Fund Me campaign.
You may recall that, during the COVID epidemic, when so many of the villagers fell ill and required hospitalization, and were unable to provide food for their families, these same Shipibo friends called out to me with the same request – that I reach out to my community on their behalf. I did so, and you all responded magnificently, for which they sent their heartfelt gratitude.
I am extending the request of my Shipibo friends to you, once again, asking for your compassionate help.
Please donate. Please.
