As many of you know Sid is my best friend. If you didn't know...it's true. He's been with me for many years, through some of the best and worst times. When I got back from Afghanistan he was one of the few things that got me outside. He's the main reason I was able to feel like a real human again. He's my first dog, the dog that all other dogs will be compared to. I never knew I could love anything that much before he came into my life. It's a lot of love, if that wasn't clear before.
Today his diagnosis of Osteosarcoma of his right front leg was confirmed. Tomorrow he's going in for surgery to amputate his leg. He has been in so much pain that making the decision didn't take long. I'm not ready to let him go. Not when there is a good chance he could live a full life for a few more years. I'm not ready to not have my trusty hiking buddy. He's going to be the most magical three legged dog the world has seen.
Once he has healed from surgery, because of the type of cancer, he also needs chemotherapy to stave off other cancer cells in the body. It has been recommended that he receive a treatment once every three weeks for 5 rounds.
If you know Sid you know he's a ball of energy and excitement. He hasn't slowed down much until he injured his leg. I just want my best friend to feel better, and to be able to fully appreciate what a gift he has been to me. If you are able, and if Sid has brought you the kind of joy that I've described, I could really use the help paying for these expensive procedures.
Thank you all for taking the time to read this, for being part of our lives and for letting me enjoy a little more time on this earth with one of the best things that has ever happened to me.
