**Sigma Pi Fraternity House Fire Fundraiser**

**Location:** 218 W Pine St, Big Rapids, MI 49307, United States

**Date:** June 5, 2024

In the early hours of June 5, 2024, a devastating fire broke out at the Sigma Pi Fraternity house at approximately 6 am. The fire, presumably electrical in origin, caused total destruction of the property. All 10 occupants, including 7 fraternity brothers and 3 of their girlfriends, were fast asleep when the fire started.

The quick actions of fraternity brother Mackenzie DeLaGarza, who was alerted to the fire when his CPAP machine shut off due to a power outage, saved lives. Mackenzie woke up choking due to lack of oxygen and upon smelling smoke, realized the house was on fire. He heroically woke everyone up and guided them to safety.

Thankfully, all residents escaped unharmed. However, the fire resulted in the total loss of their personal belongings. They now face the uncertainty of not having lodging accommodations and the upcoming challenges of their academic responsibilities.

Currently, there has been no successful contact with the property owner/landlord by either the residents or local authorities (fire and police). The landlord’s wife arrived at approximately 10:40 am and is speaking with some of the residents, but no immediate solutions have been provided.

**Why We Need Your Help:**

We are seeking to raise funds for:

1. **Legal Fees:** To cover any legal fees incurred in holding the landlord accountable for preventable damages.

2. **Temporary and Permanent Housing:** To secure a new residence for the Sigma Pi Fraternity (Ferris State University, Big Rapids, Michigan Chapter) for the upcoming Fall Semester.

3. **Replacement of Personal Belongings:** To help the residents replace personal property lost in the fire.

**Immediate Needs:**

- **Lodging:** Short-term housing solutions for the displaced students.

- **Essentials:** Clothing, school supplies, and basic necessities for the fraternity brothers and their girlfriends.

- **Academic Support:** Assistance with class attendance and coursework, as some brothers have classes starting tomorrow and are currently without resources.
