Help Simera Get Mental Health Care
Donation protected
Simera is a sweet, 13-year-old girl who loves all things pink, cooking videos, and playing with animals. She's an active member of her local church. She participates in the youth group and serves in the children's nursery. Holly met Simera on a six-week trip to Ethiopia, where she volunteered for an adoption agency based in Minnesota when Simera was four-months-old. Simera was in poor, neglectful living conditions that affected her physical, mental, and emotional development. Like many babies adopted internationally, Simera experienced insufficient medical care, malnutrition, maternal separation, neglect, and abuse, including being born to a birth mother who used drugs. The moment Simera’s mom, Holly, saw her, she knew she had to do whatever it took to bring her home.
Simera was diagnosed with Reactive Attachment Disorder, Tourettes, PTSD, OCD, and Depression when she was very young. The family made tough decisions and took steps to help Simera with her emotional and mental challenges. She has been in therapy, hospitalized, on medications, and even lived in a residential treatment facility. Today, Simera requires this intense level of care again. She is oppositional, violent, and angry. Simera needs medication adjustments and care that can not be safely given at home. The family has been researching programs across the country that will provide Simera with love, trauma-informed care, and stability. The ultimate goal is to get her back home. Multiple residential centers have approved Simera for programs with out-of-pocket costs ranging from $27,000 to $82,000. Although the Wallace's know that placement in a residential facility is necessary, they cannot afford the care they gave her years ago when Holly was employed. The company she worked for shut down due to covid.
The Wallace family is struggling and needs the help of their community. Holly, a three time cancer survivor, Rob, a wonderful and loving father and step-father, and Greta, a patient and kind little sister, desperately want help for Simera. Let's come together to give Simera the care and treatment she needs!
