Help Smiley because Smiley Helps Others

I need to share a story that happened to me today.

I hope you share this post because some stories are worth telling.

This story is about sharing and caring about strangers. If you are not into that stop reading.

My friend is sick and Tuesday night he had an emergency in another state 1,000 miles away, he was alone and I didn’t want him to be that way so I jumped on a flight to see him first thing in the morning.

I spent all day with him and I was glad to do it.

I grabbed an Uber to go back to the airport and quickly found out that it was my Uber drivers first day on the job , his name is Charlie but his friends call him “Smiley.”

Charlie was a little nervous as it was his first day on the job.

I called my friends giving them updates on our friend, I must have called 6 or 7 people because our friend who is sick is very loved.

We spoke of what we can do and how we can get our club of men together to join forces and help financially.

Cancer is a bitch.

I didn’t think Charlie was listening but he was....

I was done with my calls and I started chatting and learning about Smiley.

Smiley was homeless and slept under a bridge for over 20 years up until 8 years ago. I asked him how he got back on his feet and he said “God.” While, I am not super religious I do understand believing and being part of something bigger then yourself.

Smiley explained to me that he has 3 jobs because he is determined to get his finances in order as he is not good at that.

He was very proud of his truck, a F-150, which he said was close to being too old for Uber.

Smiley lived in a car wash where he is the porter and had a trailer. He was very proud of his roof.

Charlie has 2 coon dogs that are his best friends.

I asked him what his goal was....he said to be happy. I agreed with him.

I told him about my eating and philanthropy club and Smiley laughed (which was very hearty and genuine)

We talked more. He was very proud of his raise he got recently at the car wash from $9. to $10 an hour. He is 8 years sober and he knows how important it is to stay that way.

When we got to the airport and as I was getting out of the truck. He told me to wait a moment and he went into his wallet and gave me the only $20 bill he had and said “I would like to the first one to help your friend”

And then he gave me the biggest smile I have ever seen.

If this story is worth sharing. Please DO. I know Smiley would get a smile

Charlie needs to be paid back by the universe
