Help Snowball-the Street Cat with No Tongue, and His Friends

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Sarah, and I’m raising funds to help a street cat in Las Vegas named Snowball, who faces an unimaginable struggle—he was born without a tongue. Despite this disability, Snowball has fought to survive on the scorching Vegas streets, but now he needs urgent care.

Any extra funds raised will go toward helping the other cats in Snowball’s colony, who are enduring similar hardships in the blistering heat outside a low-income apartment complex near the Las Vegas Strip.

**Snowball’s Story**

Snowball, along with at least 15 other cats, once had a caretaker. Unfortunately, when their feeder was forced to leave due to violent crime in the complex, the cats were left behind, slowly starving. When we found them they were skin and bones. The apartment management not only neglected these animals, they threatened to evict anyone who fed them.

When I found them, they were surviving in 120-degree heat, sprawled on scorching rocks near piles of dog feces. Their only source of water was a moldy, stagnant dispenser—hardly fit for any living creature.

Snowball was always the first to rush toward us when we arrived with food. His hunger was heart-wrenching. So emaciated, it took him 30 minutes or more to eat, and it never seemed to be enough.

One by one, we’ve been working to rescue these cats, providing them with medical care and searching for homes. Snowball and his brother, Angel, were finally trapped. They were covered in filth, their matted fur stained with dried blood.

Our first step was getting them vaccinated, but the low-cost clinic couldn’t help—they were too sick. When we took them to a full-service vet, what she told us was shocking: Snowball has no tongue. It’s a miracle he’s survived this long. He can’t groom himself, and we don’t even know how he manages to eat or drink. The vet had never seen anything like it. Snowball is now considered a special needs cat and will require ongoing assistance for the rest of his life.

Both Snowball and Angel will need extensive dental work, including tooth extractions, and some
testing for viruses. Their journey toward health is just beginning, and we don’t yet know the full extent of what Snowball will need.

**The Challenge Ahead**

A local special needs rescue called the Poppi Foundation is willing to take Snowball in, but they need at least $5,000 to cover his and his brother’s lifetime medical and care expenses.

The reality is heartbreaking. Las Vegas shelters are overwhelmed due to record-high evictions, job loss, and the ongoing drug crisis. As a result, countless unfixed cats are abandoned on the streets. And with temperatures soaring to 120 degrees this summer, these cats are struggling to survive in the harshest conditions.

I am doing everything I can—trapping, neutering, and releasing (TNR) cats to prevent the cycle of suffering. I’ve also brought as many indoors as my small condo will allow, but I’m at my limit. Now, I need your help.

**How You Can Make a Difference**

Your generous donation will directly impact Snowball’s life by providing him with the specialized medical care he needs and ensuring he finds a safe, loving forever home. If there are any funds left after Snowball is taken care of, they will go toward helping the other cats in his colony who continue to struggle on the streets.

Thank you for taking the time to read Snowball’s story. It’s only through your kindness and support that I can continue rescuing these vulnerable animals. Together, we can make a real difference for Snowball and his friends.
