Help Sofia Kick Cancer Butt...Again!

The words to explain how we feel to be in this position for the second time in 3 years just do not exist. In January 2019, we found out that Sofia (only 4 years old) was diagnosed with Leukemia. After about 20 months of intense treatment, we were excited to announce that Sofia had kicked cancers butt! Over the last year, Sofia has been a constant reminder to enjoy life, sing at the top of your lungs, dance like no ones watching, and most importantly to be kind to one another. Unfortunately, the cancer has returned and Sofia has been in the hospital for 40+ days and counting. She is turning 8 years old in a few weeks on October 26th.

When Sofia was first diagnosed with Leukemia, it tore us all down-to imagine a kid so young who has to go through such pain and struggles. It was a tough time for the family not only emotionally and physically, but also financially. So I had created a GoFundMe to help relieve some pressure and stress from my brother and his family. So many of you reached out and donated not only money but prayers, and I hate that we are in this position again. It’s never easy to ask for help, so instead I’d like to share some of the things Sofia has done since kicking cancers butt 13 months ago.

Over the last year, Sofia has made it her mission to inspire others to not only keep fighting, but also she has come up with ways to give back to the hospital, and donate to children’s cancer research. Last December, Sofia said she wanted to donate toys back to The Melodies Center at Albany Medical- the very center that helped her fight cancer. She said they brought so many toys and fun things to play with during her chemo treatment that kept her spirit high and made her keep smiling; she wanted to be able to do the same for other kids going through the same thing. So we held a toy drive where so many people donated toys and money. Sofia is also a Baller of the Baller Dream Foundation, a foundation for young people battling cancer. She also would like me to let you know that she has partnered with Freihofer’s and Price Chopper, with every purchase of their bread product, $0.10 will be donated to The Melodies Center.

So I’d like to ask you all to keep Sofia in your prayers, and if you’d like to send a personal video message of something fun to help keep her spirit high and make her smile you can contact me. She has not been in the best of moods ever since finding out that the cancer has returned and some days she has even said she doesn’t want to fight anymore.
