Help Sofia to Attend a School

My name is Tetyana Nozina, a Ukrainian-born Canadian from Donetsk. Like many people worldwide, I am horrified with the latest events. I have family and friends in Ukraine and communicate with them daily. It is tough to express the level of helplessness we feel and guilt for not being close. “We” means Ukrainians, who are safe here, in Canada. But the truth is, everyone can do something. This campaign is one small thing I can do to help.
We want to host a Ukrainian high school student, Sofia, from Kyiv. Sofia is the daughter of our friends. The family had to move from their hometown of Donetsk to Kyiv in 2014, when Donetsk was occupied. They started a new life in Kyiv. However, they are not home again. In February of 2022 they fled again, this time to the Western Part of Ukraine. For the second time in their lives, they lost their home and belongings. They hope they can come back to Kyiv.
We offered that 15-year-old Sofia stays at our place and go to school in Ottawa. We will be happy to share with her our home, provide food, and what she needs.
We found that Ottawa Carleton Schoolboard has a suitable program https://studyottawa.ocdsb.ca/programs/academic-year-programs/secondary, when an international high school student can stay with a Canadian family and attend OCDSB school.
The funds raised from this campaign will be used as follow:
Application Fee (non-refundable), $400
Tuition, 2 semesters 2022-2023 school year, $14,800
Medical Insurance, $600
Flight ticket, approximately $1,200
Student Visa application $150
----------------------------------------------
Total $17,150

I also encourage everyone who may read this campaign to host international students from Ukraine. Kids should not see what they see now in Ukraine.
Thank you!
