Help Sophia Fight MELAS ❤️

Over the weekend we celebrated of my younger sisters 13th birthday. She has a rare genetic condition called MELAS (Mitochondrial Encephalopathy, Lactic Acidosis, and Stroke-like episodes) - where her food doesn’t convert to energy. The Mitochondria enables every cell in our body to function normally, but unfortunately it does the opposite for her.


I’ve been very private about this since her diagnosis, but things took a turn last night and she needs all of the prayers right now. This is her second time being hospitalized for a metabolic stroke, and during a procedure where a central line needed to be placed to administer medicine she started seizing and is now intubated to help her breathe. Metabolic strokes are very common with her disease, but each episode  takes a toll on her brain. 


We all love Sophia so much and to everyone that knows her knows how silly and bright she is. We’re praying for a miracle, for a cure, and for her to pull through this. She did it once before and I know with God’s will, she can do it again. We love you so much Sophia!!! You are the strongest little gal I know. Ate (pronounced “ah-teh” means older sister in tagalog) Mommy, Daddy, Lily, Kevin, and Joel love you more than you can imagine. She's currently in great hands of some of the top pediatric neurologists in the US, in the PICU @ Children's Hospital in DC.

This will go directly towards the accumulation of medical expenses my parents have incurred the past few months. There's not a lot of research for MELAS.
