Help Sophia Matias

- Sophia Matias is a 15 year old Stafford High School Student. On August 17, 2021 she was waiting for the school bus. The bus never came. She was crossing Leeland Road to catch a ride with a friend. She was hit by a car, that left the scene, and then run over by a second car. The second car remained on the scene. Sophia was excited about school and had just made the Field Hockey Team. She is currently at VCU, in Richmond, VA, in surgery. Her jaw is broken on both sides, pelvis is broken on both sides, right hip is broken, she has a brain bleed and both lungs and right kidney are bruised. She has a long recovery ahead of her. She lives with her mother, Katherine and her 17 year old brother. Her father is a firefighter.
- The family is going to need help so that Katherine can stay with Sophia during her surgeries and recovery. Anything you can contribute will be greatly appreciated, gift cards (gas, food) and money for medical and household bills.
- Sophia is one of the sweetest girls you will ever meet. She has a lot of friends praying for her recovery. Right now all are in shock. Let's rally around this family and let them know we all care. This accident should have never happened. If there wasn't a shortage of buses she would have been on her bus and in school.
- I am a friend of the family. Sophia and Katherine are very good friends with my family and are like family to us. I grew up across the street from where they currently live. My sister still lives there. The funds will be used to cover Katherines missed salary, during the time she is with Sophia, medical bills not covered by insurance, and any immediate needs for Katherine as she is staying at VCU with Sophia. It will also help with their rent, utility bills, etc. The money will be accessible only by Katherine (mother). Sophia is going to have a long recovery and it is anticipated that Katherine may be out of work up to 6 months or more.
