Help Sophie beat bone cancer

Our golden retriever Sophie has been the sweetest, most gentle dog anyone could ask for.

Unfortunately, she was recently diagnosed with osteosarcoma (bone cancer).

We'd lost one of our previous dogs to that disease and it was horrendous for us to endure. At that time, there wasn't much that could be done; it had already progressed so far in her, and veterinary medical advancements just hadn't happened yet. Losing her was devastating, especially for my mother.

With Sophie, she had the affected leg amputated at the suggestion of the specialist we were referred to by our primary vet. He was (and is) confident we caught it early enough that amputation would buy us more time with Sophie.

Today we found out that Sophie is a candidate for the EGFR/HER2 vaccine out of Yale University, which has shown incredibly promising effects. Basically, the vaccine helps to prevent diagnosed cancers from spreading to other parts of the body, particularly the lungs. Some patients even saw a complete remission of the cancer! Obviously, this vaccine is still a work in progress and not a cure, but we're willing to do whatever we can to have just a little more time with our Sophie.

We've exhausted our limited funds just getting the infected leg removed, so this GoFundMe is to raise enough to help us get her through the Yale vaccine study (X-rays are the biggest kick to the wallet). If we manage to go over our $2500 goal, we'd like to donate the remainder to either the clinic Sophie will receive her treatment at to go towards other families who may not be able to afford the same treatment, or directly to the Yale vaccine research through Canine Cancer Alliance .
