Help Soup get a seizure alert x PTSD service dog
Donation protected
Hello, my friends call me Soup, I'm 24, living in Alberta and on permanent disability (AISH).
I have a non-epileptic seizure disorder that causes me to have up to four seizures a day. I am unable to work due to the severity of my seizure disorder, and my other illnesses (I'm physically disabled as well). I have absent seizures; y'all may have heard them called drop seizures.
I also have Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder which causes me to have flashbacks, major depressive episodes, and passive suicidal thoughts.
Having a service dog to help me with these would greatly improve my quality of life. I would feel safer leaving my house, in the event of a medical emergency (seizure; PTSD episode, etc), and allow me a social life. I'd be able to go to events & clubs safely without needing to rely on my friends to stay near me if I have a seizure. I'm short and get disoriented before a seizure so trying to spot friends in crowds is difficult.
However, AISH (disability) will not help me with the costs, which total around $13'800.
- Up to $2'500 for the cost of a dog (there are 5 specific breeds that are recommended for seizure alert dogs; 4 of these are also recommended for PTSD service dogs)
- $120 for the medical report
- $158 to submit an application to get into the service dog training program.
- $10'950 for the training program ($5000 upfront).
- not to mention travel expenses if the training we need is not offered in my city.
