Help Sponsor Family of 6 from Afghanistan

Our family is doing this fundraiser to sponsor a young family of 6 from Afghanistan for resettlement in Canada. The last few years have seen the situation in Afghanistan become increasingly dangerous as the Taliban seized power.

 

One of us met the young father while doing international volunteer work. The father ran an informal cafe to bridge cultural divides and soothe tensions between different groups. He and the others who ran the cafe used the act of preparing and eating food together to bring people together despite differences. He returned to Afghanistan a few years ago to care for his dying father. 

 

The family is comprised of two young parents in their 30's, one daughter who is 10, and three sons who are 13, 5 and 3.

 

The funds from this fundraiser will go towards sponsoring the family through the Private Refugee Sponsorship program: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/refugees/help-outside-canada/private-sponsorship-program.html . We are sponsoring them through a Sponsorship Agreement Holder: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/refugees/help-outside-canada/private-sponsorship-program/agreement-holders.html .

 

The total cost of the sponsorship is $32,000, we already have some of the funds, which is why the goal for this fundraiser is $15,000. The total amount is set by the Government of Canada, and is calculated based on the requirements for a family of 6, using the RSTP Minimum Financial Support Calculator: https://www.rstp.ca/calc/?lang=en. This will provide them with start-up funds and monthly financial support for their first year in Canada.
