Help Stacy Meyer Get Back on Her Feet (literally)

Donation protected
Stacy Meyer is my high school classmate--a friend to many, a grandmother, a mom of two.  She continues to care for her adult son (Steve), who cannot live independently.  She has a professional background in non-profit management, and took full-time care of her ailing father for several years before he passed away in 2019.

Since January, 2022, Stacy has been dealing with life-threatening medical diagnoses, which have prevented her from being able to work.  Stacy and her sister co-own the home she lives in, but there are bills and taxes to pay; she needs an income, or they face homelessness.

We originally started this GoFundMe to tide her over until Social Security found her qualified for disability benefits. Well, SSA recently completed their review, and said she has not been vested enough in the system to qualify for disability--she was her dad's sole caregiver from 2010 to 2019, and SSA uses the last 10 full years to calculate eligibility for benefits.  Stacy's time frame (2011 to 2021) means she was not active in the workforce, because in our nation, we treat caregivers as electively choosing to be unemployed.

Stacy's current diagnoses include Cardiomyopathy, Congestive Heart Failure, Peripheral Vascular Disease, and Type 2 Diabetes (Insulin Dependent).  The Peripheral Vascular Disease prevents her from being able to be on her feet for more than just a few minutes at a time.  Walking is terrifying, with a catastrophic loss of balance and muscular control, and also results in much brain fog and general anxiety.  The disease is surgically treatable, but some insurances call it "elective surgery" and so refuse to pay for it.  After months of this insurance limbo, Stacy is transitioning from one doctor to another in order to overcome the insurance obstacle, but time is of the essence.

In Stacy's words, "my focus now has to shift toward trying to get just pulled together enough physically so that I can eventually go back to work.  But that's going to take awhile yet, especially with the vessels in my legs needing the surgical procedures (one requires a full bypass, just like I had done on my heart).  That's why - unfortunately -  I still require as much help as possible to keep the bills paid."

And so we continue with the fundraiser--Stacy and her son need assistance for food, utilities, transportation, and basic living costs until she has undergone surgery and rehab sufficient to get back on her feet and start working again.  My wife, AJ, and I are kicking it off with a donation of $2,000. Please help as you are able ... thank you.
