Help Start a School for Thai and Refugee Children

We are Spiritual Warriors Against Trafficking (SWAT) Ministries International and the Hands of Hope Foundation, a small team based in Chiang Rai, Thailand working with Hilltribe children and refugees from Kachin State in Myanmar.

SWAT is a Christian volunteer foundation formed by a U.S. couple, Jon, and Chrissy Espy, who have been involved for over a decade in Northern Thailand working in anti-human trafficking with at-risk children. The Foundation is overseen by a US-based independent Board and is a 501 (c) (3) foundation. The Espy family is supported currently by four volunteers, a couple from the United States and a couple from New Zealand, who are self-funded.

We engage in child restoration through a family environment. Our ministry has grown over the years in the areas of combatting human trafficking, prevention, intervention, and restoration. Our Field Representatives and staff work hard to bring awareness to at-risk villages in Chiang Rai. We also express the love that Jesus Christ has for us and how he can impact our lives. SWAT also uses resources to supply needs to villages and poor communities in hopes of reducing the risks to children due to severe poverty.

The Situation:

Through our restoration efforts in Thailand God has brought in a unique opportunity for us to bring refugees into our ministry from war-torn areas here in Southeast Asia. Now with this growth in ministry, we need a school for these children. Unfortunately, the school that the refugees and at-risk children were attending was closed at no fault of their own. Due to our growth and these other circumstances, we are about to start a new “homeschooling” facility in Chiang Rai using a well-established US curriculum in a safe environment. We have a teacher in our volunteer ranks and the other three volunteers have teaching experience to enable us to begin a program to meet the needs of our wonderful kids. We currently have 15 children and teenagers who range from 6 years old to 18 years old, with an expectation that the number will fluctuate as some teens graduate and other children are identified as needing our program.

How you can help

To get this school off the ground we need your help to raise $9,700. These funds will help cover the startup costs including a space to rent, computers, desks, chairs, and all the basics that come with starting a school.
