Help Starting A Non-Profit Feeding The Homeless
Donation protected
I have been running The Awkward Gardener's Community Table since December 2018 as a way to divert potential food waste out of landfills and toward feeding those experiencing food insecurity. I take donations from overflowing gardens, grocery stores and restaurants with unsold product, and community members cleaning out pantries and garages. In all these scenarios, the food and supplies are in perfectly good condition, but need to find new homes or else they go into the landfill. With a focus on food waste and sustainability practices, we feed those in need through what I see as a triple win approach. Demand for my services has increased exponentially due to the devastating financial effects/impact of the pandemic.
Starting a non-profit (or any business) is quite expensive. While this is my dream to turn my passion into a non-profit, it takes a community to make it happen. If you’re looking to support local for The Big Day of Giving this May, please consider helping fund a new start-up. Being granted 501c3 status opens up A LOT more doors to help more folks. Under a new CA law, entities have to donate their leftover food (potential food waste) to local non-profits. This law EXACTLY fits with the main mission of TAGCT, so having the 501c3 status would allow me to forge more relationships, keep more waste out of landfills, and feed more folks experiencing food insecurity. Please consider making a difference and a huge impact on the local level by supporting my business growth! Money will go towards fees, overhead, insurance, website, setting up bank accounts, transportation, cell phones, etc. I am a grassroots, corp non-profit who works directly with folks on the streets every week.
Can’t donate at this time? Please consider sharing so more people can be reached who might be looking to support a cause such as mine!
