Help Stephanie Paris & Her Children Avoid Eviction
Donation protected
At the encouragement of one of my mentors, I have chosen to create this gofundme campaign. I am a single parent and full time college student. I am in my third year of an undergraduate biochemistry program at Portland State University, as well as doing undergraduate research work at the OHSU School of Public Health.
I feel very uncomfortable disclosing how financially difficult things have become over the past few months, but I feel that I must in order to open up the possibility of a solution. I have exhausted all of my financial resources, and we are currently facing an eviction if I am not able to pay this month’s rent (plus late fee) by Thursday March 12, 2020. In addition to that, I have a PGE (electricity) shutoff notice for March 11, 2020. The total amount I still need for these two items is reflected in the goal for this gofundme campaign. It is extremely hard for me to ask for help like this, but after brainstorming with many people, fundraising in this way is just one of the many things I am doing to remedy my current financial crisis.
I understand that many of us are financially challenged, however when multiple people are able to help, even small amounts can make a huge difference. To put things in perspective, if everyone I knew donated just $5, I would have more than enough to cover this month’s deficit and then some. So please know that any amount is significant. Additionally, or in lieu of donating, sharing this campaign would also be greatly appreciated.
I realize that this is a short term fix for a larger funding issue, but at this moment in time I need to put out this fire so that a long term solution can be found in order to get me through the rest of my degree program. I am currently working with campus resources, including the Financial Wellness Center and the C.A.R.E. Team (Coordination Assessment Response Education team) at my university to help put in place a plan that supports my financial and academic success.
For the past 3 ½ years in school, I have managed to maintain a 4.0 GPA, despite the demands of my program and the effort it takes to provide a nurturing home for my two teenage boys. I am a highly motivated, high-achieving student and I know I am an asset to my university and research community. I am passionate about being an advocate for the health and wellbeing of humanity and our planet. Financial stability is imperative to staying focused in school as I work towards graduating and being able to contribute to a healthier future for those I will serve. I am so grateful for any support you are able to offer.
