Help the Lowtwaits Rebuild After LA Wildfires
Donation protected
Hi everyone,
I’m reaching out on behalf of my dear friends, Steve and Leslie Lowtwait, and their 12-year-old son, Brody. The Lowtwaits were among the countless families affected by the devastating LA wildfires currently ravaging the region. While their home miraculously survived, their garage and everything inside were destroyed, along with the rest of their property. Even though the house is still standing, it's unihabitable due to smoke damage and it will likely take many months before they are able to return.
This tragedy comes on the heels of another devastating year for the family. Earlier in 2024, they faced a severe toxic mold crisis in their home that made them sick for months. The remediation process was grueling and expensive, forcing them to throw out mattresses, furniture, clothing, and more. They also had to remodel their kitchen, all without insurance coverage.
During the mold remediation, they moved many of their most treasured belongings to the garage for safekeeping. Tragically, the wildfire consumed nearly all of it—95% of their books, clothes, toys, housewares, outdoor gear, bikes, and more. Among the losses were several of Steve’s original artworks. Steve is an extraordinarily talented artist, and his works weren’t just possessions—they were irreplaceable expressions of his creativity and passion.
The fire has also caused significant smoke damage to their home, leaving the family to grapple with yet another uphill battle. After spending most of the year recovering from the mold crisis, this wildfire has been a devastating setback.
The Lowtwaits are some of the most resilient, kind-hearted people I know. They’ve endured so much, but starting over for the second time in a year is an overwhelming challenge. That’s why I’m asking for your help.
Donations will go toward:
- Replacing the household essentials and personal belongings lost in the fire.
- Addressing smoke damage in their home.
- Restoring their property to create stability and normalcy for their family.
If you’re unable to donate, sharing their story would mean the world. Every bit of support helps the Lowtwaits take one step closer to recovering from this loss.
Thank you for your kindness and generosity during this challenging time. Together, we can help this amazing family recover and move forward.
With gratitude,
Fallon Voorheis-Mathews
