Hi everyone,
I’m in a tough spot and could really use some help. My MacBook Pro suddenly died, and without it, I can’t take coding assessments for job interviews, do technical work, or move forward in my job search.
I’ve been actively job hunting, applying to over 700+ positions—both in tech and even retail jobs at Target, Best Buy, Walmart, Costco, GameStop, and Starbucks—just trying to find anything to stay afloat. So far, I’ve had 10 interviews and 3 callbacks, but no offers yet. Many of these jobs require technical assessments, which I cannot take without a Mac.
Why I Need a Mac (and Not Just Any Computer)
Since I’m an iOS developer, I can’t just use any computer. Macs are the only computers that support Xcode, which is required to build iOS apps. There’s no way around this—without a Mac, I simply can’t work in my field.
What I’m Doing to Help Myself
I’m doing everything I can to raise the money myself:
- Selling personal items (collectibles, tech, etc.) to help cover costs
- Applying to jobs nonstop, including non-tech positions
- Looking for freelance work that I can do without a Mac
Even with these efforts, I’m still short on what I need to get back on my feet.
Where the $1,200 Will Go
I’m raising $1,200 for:
- ✔ $800 – Mac Mini M4 (base model with slight memory upgrade, the most affordable option to get back to work)
- ✔ $99 – Apple Developer Program renewal (required to keep developing and publishing apps)
- ✔ Remaining funds – Other necessary developer licenses & software tools
