Help Steve's Family Overcome Tragic Loss

Thank you for visiting our gofundme. I am a friend of Steve Hughes, a 46 year old man who was senselessly murdered while doing his job on June 12th.

Steve was a wonderful son, a terrific Dad, and a great friend to many in the community. He was always willing to help if he could and would do anything possible for anyone. He had a kind heart and was a good man.

Steve worked for a tow company and part of his duties was to complete repossession orders from lenders for vehicle loans that hadn't been paid and were in default. It was just his job, it wasn't his fault the car was repossessed. He was a good family man and would do anything for them.

On the early morning of June 12, 2024, Steve arrived at a residence to pickup a car that was being repossessed by the person's lender. She had told the lender to pickup the car and provided the location address (we have been told it was her ex-boyfriends place). When Steve backed the tow truck into the driveway to pickup the car prr the repo order, he was met with a large number of bullets fired by the brother the car owner who had surrendered the vehicle to the lender. We are told Steve attempted to leave the residence but before he could make the turn out of the driveway was struck by a bullet(s) preventing him from continuing and his vehicle rolled into a tree on the opposing side of the road where the officers found him upon their arrival, still in the vehicle and barely alive. He died at the hospital shortly after. A stray bullet was found in the neighbor across the streets cabinets in her garage from the shooting as well. The murderer was arrested and is currently awaiting a bond hearing. Steve's family and friends are struggling to keep moving forward in the mix of this senseless, malicious viciousness. An innocent man doing his job and now gone forever.

He was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. It's a hard road ahead. His service is set for Tuesday, June 18th.
