Support Ministry on Death Row and Stop Executions!

Hi. I'm Alison McCrary in New Orleans, Louisiana. You may have seen me on Netflix's Queer Eye Season 8, Episode 5: "The Flying Nun!" I also work on Louisiana's Death Row and we have an urgent and timely need in this moment.
Louisiana is the most incarcerated state in the most incarcerated nation in the world. For over 19 years, I've served as a Spiritual Advisor on Death Row at Angola Prison, the largest prison in the United States. In this work, I meet monthly with an incarcerated person, pray with them, support them, and prepare them as much as one can for execution by the government. I am the only other person in the room when they are executed by the state. I support their families, plan their funerals, document their stories and sometimes facilitate restorative justice circles with the victims’ families. I also work with other faith leaders as an interfaith advocate to end the Death Penalty.
Just last week the state of Alabama executed Kenneth Smith by suffocation gas. And now Louisiana's new governor, Jeff Landry, is pressing legislators in this session to bring back lynching, firing squads, and suffocation gas to carry out executions. The new methods that Governor Landry and some legislators are eager to pass are inhumane and barbaric.
Aware of our web of mutuality in this urgent time, I am leaning into you, community, for support and inviting you to join me in supporting this ministry and advocacy. I am hoping to raise $10,000 in order to organize my community to stop these inhumane executions that the governor wants to carry out.
I am deeply committed to working for the liberation for all, cultivating meaningful relationships in community, creating transformation through healing, connecting people who are incarcerated to their loved ones, helping people grow in their relationship with God, and living out of our interconnectedness and oneness with each other and all of creation. I believe that no one is defined by the worst thing they have done, that no one should die alone, and that this system of punishment doesn’t help or heal anyone. I believe in a different system, and I believe we can do better as a country.
There are no solo acts in justice work. And this ministry would not be possible without you and your support. Any amount helps offer this vital service, and all donations are 100% tax-deductible. Thank you for joining me in putting an end to the death penalty, making space for a more humane world.
