Hello, I am fundraising for The Shared Kitchen Workers Cooperative the Cocina Compartida de Trabajadores Cooperativistas (CCTC). Since 2015, Chicago Street Vendors have been fighting for their right to earn an honest living by selling food products to people in their own neighborhoods. Yes, your favorite tamale, elote, and fruit vendor outside your school and parks have been working so hard to bring you your favorite snacks and keep their own families fed. They bought a commercial kitchen where they can prepare these foods for you and the kitchen was certified by the city. However, the kitchen needs some renovations to become fully functional and due to Covid our construction estimate went from $138,000-$206,000 because of unexpected delays and price inflation on construction materials. They are in need of some financial help so that the kitchen can be finished. Organizations such as P3Markets, Little Village Community Foundation, the members themselves and the Neighborhood Opportunity fund have helped put together $150,000 but they need help with the rest. CCTC members worked with the Street Vendors Association of Chicago (SVAC) to bring free meals to underserved communities in the area during the pandemic, serving 1200 free meals to those in need. In the winter many of them are out of work. The kitchen is intended to keep everyone working all year round. Please help our Chicago Street Vendors finish their kitchen so they can feed their families.
