Help Struebing Family With Medical Expenses
Donation protected
We are raising money for the Struebing family, in Colorado, to help offset the costs of traveling to Florida for their youngest daughter’s (Ellie) upcoming surgery.
Ellie was born with Neurofibromatosis and many kids with this disorder also suffer from a tibial fracture that will not heal. This past spring Ellie experienced one of these tibial fractures. She had been in a cast for 12 weeks without any healing of her tibia. It is typical for these kids with Neurofibromatosis and these non-healing tibial fractures to have surgeries throughout their childhood and live life in a brace. If the combination of multiple surgeries and braces are not effective, the next treatment is amputation.
However, Dr. Paley at the Paley Institute in Florida, in 2007, created a method for long term healing and correction of these tibial fractures. He has treated more than 50 children with this disorder and all have remained healed!
The insurance company has approved Ellie to receive consultation for the surgery which will happen in September. The Struebing family is hopeful and expecting that their insurance will cover the cost of surgery as well. After receiving this surgery, Ellie will be able to participate in all sports and lead a normal, active life, something the other surgeries cannot guarantee.
While it would be amazing if insurance is completely covers the cost of the consultation and surgery, the insurance company will not cover travel costs associated with having the surgery across the country from Colorado. The Struebing family is expecting to travel to Florida in September for consultation and then later in November for the surgery. When they travel the second time to Florida for the surgery in November, they expect to be there two weeks for surgery and recovery. There is a possibility that they will need to make a third trip back to Florida for another follow up visit. These multiple trips to Florida will create a financial burden for the Struebing family between plane flights, hotels, and daily expenses.
As friends of the Struebing family, we can witness to the love and generosity this family consistently exudes to others. It is our hope to be source of support for them in their time of need by helping to offset some of these upcoming costs. We are hoping to raise $6,000, the Struebing's estimated out of pocket travel costs, by the end of October 2019. We thank all of our friends and family who can help us support this family as they walk through a time of need.
