Help Sugar Recover from Vicious Dog Attack
Donation protected
On October 17th, our son was walking our 9-year-old dog, Sugar, when he encountered a neighborhood friend walking his pitbull dog. Our son went to say hello to his friend, at which point the pitbull attacked our dog. Because Sugar has never exhibited aggression toward people or other animals, my son didn't think to consider the danger of approaching his friend.
Sugar was pinned to the ground and viciously mauled. Neighbors tried throwing objects and making loud noises in an effort to distract the attacking dog, but it wasn't until the child's father ran out that the dog let go of Sugar.
Fortunately, the children were unharmed; however, Sugar had to undergo emergency surgery that evening and is currently enduring her second surgery as I type this. She will require at least one more surgery next week.
Unfortunately, Virginia's laws make it nearly impossible to receive reimbursement from the attacking dog's insurer due to the "one bite law" regardless of the circumstances.
The severity of Sugar's injuries presents a significant financial burden, with an estimated cost of $10,000. I am humbly asking for help to pull our family dog through this trying time. Any support, even just sharing this campaign, is greatly appreciated!
