Help Summer Slaughter Sarcoma
Donation protected
She's kind. She's generous. She loves animals more than anything else and wants someday to be a veterinarian. She's battling a rare form of cancer. She needs your help to put it in her past.
When Summer was diagnosed with Reproductive Sarcoma in the fall, we were terrified and dove right into any available treatments. This form of cancer is exceedingly rare in young women her age and she was not going to go down without a fight! We have continued to follow as many of the recommendations of her medical team as our insurance would allow. Due to Covid hospital restrictions, surgery to remove the newest offending masses has had to be delayed. These delays have led to multiple complications and more treatment and Drs appointments than we can count.
As many times as Summer sees a doctor or visits a treatment center or ER, there are always copays involved. (Medications too, oh so many prescriptions ...) Summ continues to work full time in an amazing veterinary hospital that has been wonderfully supportive. She has applied for grants and governmental assistance. It just isn't enough.
So here we are. As her mom, I have done everything I can to make it all happen and to keep Summer's spirits in a positive place. Our savings accounts have been exhausted. Due to Covid, my usual side-hustle Disney job is still on furlough, and the extra earning opportunities at my full-time teaching job, at Orange High, are all gone. Our regular salaries are just not enough. The copays for her immunotherapy and stem-cell treatments alone are far exceeding $2000/month, and I am out of ideas. We can't even begin to imagine what our portion of the upcoming surgical fees will be. I am attempting to refinance my home to secure monies for these expenses but that takes time - a valuable commodity we are running out of.
We are humbling ourselves and pushing pride to the side, to ask for help from our tribe of amazing friends. We have attempted to write this message so many times, and continually put it off, as we know so many are struggling with their own worries in these ridiculous times. But today's doctor's appointment was the last straw and we must now seek outside help. I never, in my entire life thought I would have to decide between paying utility bills and buying prescriptions for my daughter. Thank you for your consideration. We are grateful for so many wonderful people in our lives and having a tremendous community of family and friends is just one of our many blessings.
