Help Support A New Community Hub and Bookstore

Opening a bookstore sounds like a dream, doesn't it? One of my first memories is of my dad reading The Hobbit to me in all of the different character voices. He would read to me and then sing me Mr. Rogers' "Won't You Be My Neighbor" until my eyes drooped and I fell asleep.
We all have a story and reasons for being who we are. Those are just two of mine. Sharing stories around a bonfire or exchanging books is a love language for me, and I am thrilled to be able to bring that love to my home in Northern Michigan. When I saw the opportunity to open a new & used bookstore in my hometown, I felt as if it was meant to be. My mom has the world's greenest thumb, and I'm hoping to absorb just a bit of that power to sell native Northern Michigan flowers and plants along with the books! We will also support local artists and musicians by showcasing and selling local art and hosting local music nights!
Although I am beyond fortunate to have a small sum to open the store and get us started, I humbly ask for community support to raise funds for operating costs and to hopefully hire a part-time employee. Ideally, I would like to hire a local high school student or recent graduate who wants to learn about the literary, art, and plant worlds!
Outside of the book world, I am a former Paramedic and have a passion for supporting the mental health of first responders. A portion of the proceeds at TFL will be donated to the Northwest Michigan Peer Network and other non-profits supporting mental health, diversity, equity and inclusion, LGBTQA+ initiatives, and other minority non-profits.
The Folded Leaf's mission is "A safe space for inspired souls who thrive in the world of wonder. The doors of TFL are open to anyone who needs a place to rest, rejuvenate, and renew their mind, garden, and heart."
Words will never describe how grateful I am to each and every one of you for your continued support.
