Help support a newly arrived Gazan family in Glasgow
Donation protected
I’m Siobhan and I’m currently helping a newly arrived Gazan family navigate through their new life in Glasgow. If you've come here from my Instagram, you may have seen my story about the young Palestinian family I met in the park when I was feeding squirrels.
The good news is that they have now moved out of hotel accommodation and into their own flat as they await their asylum claim to be processed, and navigate the hostile environment policy at the same time.
Unfortunately however there is nothing in this flat that would make it homely for them, and moving out of the hotel means they no longer get a meal provided, which is where this fundraiser comes in.
The family I met in Glasgow is made up of a mum and three young children, sadly a fourth sibling did not survive after an airstrike before they were able to leave Gaza.
The mum now has little autonomy over how she is able to provide for her children, and I know the community in Glasgow will be able to provide some freedom and security for them to buy what they need, when they need it to furnish the home and buy healthy food. The priority will be duvets and blankets that we’ll hopefully be able to buy this weekend with your help, and the rest will go straight to the family to help them start their new life in Scotland.
If donating funds is not possible for you right now, if you're able to donate suitable children's toys, books or learning materials (in Arabic or Arabic & English) this would also be greatly appreciated, please reach out! Let’s give the family the welcome to Scotland that they deserve, and make the transition a wee bit easier for them.
