Help support abortions for everyone

Abortion should be available to anyone who needs or wants one. The patchwork of abortion provision and restrictions across Europe often means that abortions are not always accessible to all. We're here to level the playing field – by Supporting Abortions for Everyone (SAFE)

SAFE is an abortion fund launched 14 February 2023. Based in The Netherlands, where abortion is available in clinics until the 22nd week of pregnancy, SAFE works with pro-abortion activists, networks, and providers across Europe to support access to abortions for everyone who needs or wants one.

The right is rising, abortion rights are under attack, and civic spaces in sexual and reproductive health are shrinking. SAFE was founded by two abortion fund pioneers, Mara Clarke, the founder of the first abortion fund on this side of the Atlantic (Abortion Support Network in the UK), and Kasia Roszak ten Hove, one of the co-founders of Abortion Network Amsterdam. SAFE is the first abortion fund registered in mainland Europe.

SAFE will not have a helpline or direct contact with people getting abortions. Instead, we will help the helpers – the abortion funds, the activists, and the providers – in four ways:

FUNDING: Raising and distributing funds to individuals and organizations which facilitate abortion access.

PATHWAYS: Working with abortion providers to ensure clear pathways to abortions.

KNOWLEDGE SHARING: Collecting, developing, streamlining, and sharing best practices about how to help people get abortions.

ADVOCACY: Working with abortion providers, decision-makers, and abortion champions to advocate for better abortion pathways and laws.

We expect to have registered charity status by the end of February 2023 but in the meantime invite you to donate via GoFundMe, check out our website or sign up for our newsletter.
