Dear Friends, Family, and Kindhearted Strangers,
My name is Robert Burnett and I am Bridget's father and only support. She is a 42 year old single mom who was diagnosed with a Rare, Metaplastic, Triple Negative, Stage 3B, Aggressive Breast Cancer that also spread to her Lymph Nodes last fall of 2023. She found the lump herself overnight and after diagnosis of this rare type of cancer within a month she was immediately referred to Mass General Hospital. A team of 3 doctors knew how serious and aggressive this type of cancer was and met in person with her all on the same day, within less then a week. They do see this type of cancer in Boston but only twice last year in Dover NH at WDH. Within 6 weeks the Tumor grew to an alarming 9cm and was starting cause pain. They rushed all her testing to get her into Chemo 1st as soon as possible to shrink her tumor. Her 1st day of Chemo was on her 42'nd birthday. She even started without the Port and that was put in just after Thanksgiving. There is possibility this type of cancer can be Chemo resistant, luckily her tumor started to shrink after the 1st Chemo.
With her type of cancer she is going to have to have 16 treatments of Chemo within 20 weeks, so about 5 months total to shrink the tumor for a more successful surgery. Then to have a Double Mastectomy in May 2024 to reduce risk of returning, followed by reconstruction and radiation. There are not many other options to treat Triple Negative
This was all a shock to the family as there is no history and she tested negative for the BRCA Gene. This also came at a bad time as she had lost her full time job a month prior to diagnosis. I am the only help she really has as she tries to raise her 12 year old daughter on her own. She is now unable to work at all due to being immune compromised after being hospitalized for 5 days about a month ago with an infection. She has 2 treatments left that have made her very sick and then to be followed with surgery in May.
She never had to ask for help before because she was always used to doing things on her own. Personal expenses and medical expenses have been adding up over the past 6 months. Any support in Bridget's effort would be appreciated to help get her and her family through this while she is unable to work, to recover from surgery and go on to live a normal life.
