Help Support Kathy & Tuan Son at The Nail Expo
Community Fundraiser for Two of Bardstown Road’s Most Beloved Business Owners
Hi, my name is Abby Chambers, and I’m reaching out to the incredible community that has supported Kathy and Tuan Son, the amazing owners of The Nail Expo on Bardstown Road. I’ve been a loyal customer for years, and I know many of you have as well. Kathy and Son are two of the kindest, hardest-working, and most generous people you’ll ever meet, and now, they need our support more than ever.
For years, Kathy and Son have been the heart and soul of The Nail Expo. They’ve worked tirelessly, seven days a week, to provide excellent service and build meaningful relationships with their clients. They’ve made everyone feel like family, always going above and beyond to accommodate our needs. Their dedication and warmth have made them beloved members of our neighborhood.
Recently, Kathy was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer, and she’s facing a difficult journey ahead. She’s already been hospitalized due to acute shortness of breath, which led to her lung cancer diagnosis. She continues to work as much as she can, but she will soon begin treatment. Son has been working alone for the past several weeks to keep the business running, but it’s clear they need help—not just emotionally, but financially as well.
Both Kathy and Son came to the United States as part of the Amerasian Homecoming Act of 1987. They were born in Cambodia and Vietnam to American fathers during the Vietnam War, and, unfortunately, their early lives were marked by hardship and exclusion. Despite the challenges they faced, they built a life here in the U.S. and are deeply grateful for the opportunity to work hard, build a future, and enjoy freedom. They love this country, and they embody the spirit of resilience, hard work, and gratitude that defines America.
However, without medical insurance, the costs of Kathy’s treatment are overwhelming, and they’ve already begun to accrue significant medical bills. Son and Kathy have always been self-sufficient, but now, as they navigate this difficult time, they need our help. Their daughter, Soline, who has grown up in the salon and is currently working at Norton while attending school, is helping them manage this incredibly stressful situation. But they are still facing a mountain of medical expenses.
That’s why I’m starting this GoFundMe—to help cover Kathy’s medical expenses, allow them some time to focus on her treatment and recovery, and show them how much they mean to all of us.
Son was hesitant at first when I asked if I could start this fundraiser. He’s a man of pride and hard work, and he’s always taken care of everything on his own. But after much convincing, he agreed. Now, I’m asking you, whether you’ve been a customer for years or are just someone who’s been touched by their kindness, to help us show Kathy and Son how much they are loved and appreciated.
Please donate what you can and share this page with others. No donation is too small, and every little bit will help them during this difficult time. Let’s come together as a community and give back to two people who have given so much to all of us.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support. We are blessed to have each other.
