Wheels for Charles

On August 4th, 2019 our friend Charles Bello had a serious cycling incident in the Hamilton area. This resulted in life changing injuries for Charles including the loss of feeling and movement from his chest down. Through it all, his wife Soraya, 3 children, and the rest of his family have been supporting Charles and each other through this difficult time. Through the past 4+ months, the recovery has had many twists and turns. The one thing that remains consistent is Charles determination to work hard on his rehabilitation goals, and his family and friends support.

 To date, Charles has remained in the Hamilton Rehabilitation Centre under the great care of the medical staff. Soon, there will be a transition out of the hospital full time, and a move back home. While the extent of recovery down the road isn’t known, what we do know is that there will be many things needed in order to make the move back home safe and secure. Whether its wheelchairs (yes, you need 2), stair lift, specific bed, or house renovations, the list can be long and comes with a financial impact.

As a community, many of you have asked how to help and contribute in order to show Charles and his family love and support. Many have asked how to contribute financially. As a result, we have launched this page with a goal to deliver one of the things Charles loves the most. A vehicle! We all know how much Charles loves anything with an engine! And while we are focusing on the practical, any vehicle that allows him to move through the community as close to normal as possible requires a significant investment. So, let’s make sure Charles and family can easily go to a soccer match and coach, visit Hershey, attend kids’ graduations, and enjoy all life has to offer.
