Help Support Coach Alex Barra From Team Mayhem

Mauricio Barra is organizing this fundraiser on behalf of Alex Barra.

For 35+ years, Coach Alex Barra has been a life-impacting coach, mentor, and colleague through a career developing the values and character of young adults through basketball. For the past 19 years, Alex has been providing grass roots youth programming to thousands of basketball student athletes through the Winnipeg Team Mayhem Program. He is a loving father and husband, who grew up in Winnipeg, MB. He is passionate about providing opportunities for kids to play regardless of socio-economic status.

His love, compassion, and willingness to mentor young athletes not only in basketball but also in all aspects of their lives has helped countless players strive and achieve success at basketball on school teams, provincial teams and post-secondary institutions.

Alex is facing a series of tough battles as he embarks on his campaign to address:

Recovery from Hernia surgery and Bowel realignment

Mobility for issues around the surgery and knee issues

Body composition – address obesity that lead to his hernia

Mental Health – dealing with inability to see himself in a positive way.

This site will hopefully reach its goal and allow Alex to focus on his physical and mental recovery by ensuring that his Winnipeg Team Mayhem summer camps and still happen as hundreds of young players benefit from this opportunity every year.

Your donations will enable the Alex to focus his energy and strength on recovering and returning to make a meaningful impact in the basketball community.

Donations will be used to:

- Ensure that his family is not severely impacted economically by costs associated with his recovery such as wheelchair, medications etc.

- Offer employment to recent graduations in basketball camps as they begin to be leaders in the community.

- Any costs needed to be incurred to ensure that Mayhem programming continues as Alex recovers.

- Any monies about the stated goal will be redirected back into Youth Basketball Programming and or KidSport Manitoba.

Finally, Alex has provided countless opportunities for young players to participate in the game of basketball, many times at his own expense. I hope that Karma or the Universe rewards him now with a quick recovery and lots of support.
