Help support College Point's busiest food pantry
Spende geschützt
Please help us to support College Point's food pantries, which continue to serve many individuals who are in need and suffering from food insecurity due to the continuing impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic. All funds raised will be used to purchase food for College Point's food pantries, including the one operated by the historic First Reformed Church on 119th street, which has been serving 120 people per week throughout the pandemic. Last week, the pantry had to turn away 20 people because there was no more food to give, despite many generous donations. All funds raised will be used to purchase food for this and other College Point food pantries so they can help the growing number of food insecure residents in our community.
This fundraising effort was started by a group of longtime College Point residents after Covid began in 2020 so that we could offer lunchtime meals for hardworking essential workers in College Point. We began by bringing lunch to CP's three large nursing homes -- Waterview Nursing Home, Woodcrest Nursing Home and Cliffside Nursing Home -- as a thank-you to staff for their dedication during the Covid-19 crisis. Soon after, the Monsignor at College Point's St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church issued a plea for donations for the parish's food pantry. Many needy families had been relying on the St. Fidelis food pantry during the Covid crisis, and supplies have greatly dwindled. We also learned that the First Reformed Church, and Universal Church, in College Point needed support for their food pantries.
After bringing thank-you lunches to many more CP essential workers for their service to our community during the pandemic -- staff of the post office, fire department, sanitation department, NYPD 109th precinct and the MTA College Point depot -- we shifted our purpose to be entirely focused on helping College Point families who are in need of food. We recently reached our initial fundraising goal of $10,000, and are now turning to the community to reach our new goal of $20,000.
This community outreach effort is organized by Jennifer Shannon, Cathy Shannon, James & Kathryn Cervino, and Margaret Loughlin, all members of A Better College Point Civic Association, and is sponsored by:
A Better College Point ,Coastal Preservation Network , Margaret Loughlin Homes, Genaro's Pizzeria, and City Councilman Paul Vallone.
Thank you so much for your donation, which will directly help the people of College Point.
